Angel Flight trust coordinates free air flights to and from hospital appointments for people in isolated New Zealand communities who cannot afford to travel by ordinary commercial means.

The flights are operated by private pilots who offer their time, skills and aircraft and are supported by ground-based assistants affectionately called "earth angels".

The trust now has almost 100 people involved including pilots and earth angels as well as 41 aircraft. It has transported more than 41 people to hospitals to date - covering more than 7600 kilometres.

The operation is the brainchild of Whangarei man and pilot Lance Weller.
